Q&A With Megan Wright, New Owner Of Teddy Lane Nails

Meet Megan Wright, the proud new-ish owner of Teddy Lane, a press-on nail brand making effortless beauty accessible to women everywhere. Since taking over the business, Megan has been pouring her passion for beauty, self-care, and confidence into every set of nails she sells. Here, she shares her journey, challenges, and the joy of helping women feel like the best version of themselves.

Q: Tell us more about you, your background and where you're currently based.
A: My name is Megan, and I’m the proud owner of Teddy Lane. We are based in the beautiful town of Warkworth, New Zealand. My background has always involved people focused roles, but I’ve always had a love for beauty, and self care. Taking on Teddy Lane was a massive step into the unknown. It is a daily challenge, but one I love. I know firsthand how powerful it feels to look down at your hands and see a fresh set of nails. That might seem trivial and frivolous to some. But to others that simple act of self-care and looking good to feel good is key in their personal wellbeing. That is what I want to give to others.

Q: Why the name Teddy Lane?
A: The story behind the name is a mystery. The name Teddy Lane came with the brand when I took it over. I however love the name. It suits the brand and I couldn't imagine it being anything else. It’s a name that sticks with people, and it now holds even more meaning as we continue to grow it into a household beauty name in New Zealand and beyond.

Q: It is a whimsical name, I'd say. When (what year) did you purchase/took over the business and how big is your team?
A: We (they royal we) purchased in December of 2024. So we are still in our first year. Our team officially is the grand total of... ME! I run everything myself. In saying that though, I am surrounded by amazing people that help me every day whether they know it or not.

Q: Tell us the inspiration behind making reusable press-on nails and not other nail-related products?
A: There’s something empowering about having a great set of nails. However, as a busy woman, I am wanting that effect without the time, price tag, or pressure of committing to one style. Our reusable press-ons give women the flexibility to change their look, feel great instantly, and reuse their favourite sets again and again. I loved the idea of beauty that fits you, not the other way around. They’re convenient, affordable, customisable and honestly they just make sense for the modern woman.

Q: What's the biggest lesson you've learnt from starting and running a business?
A: Everything takes longer than you expect, but the growth happens with dedication and resilience. Owning your own business is certainly is not a walk in the park and the ticket to an easier life. But with the hard Mahi comes the rewards. Everything that comes from this business is a direct result of my hard work and that is priceless. Oh and plan A, B, C are great, but make sure you have contingencies that go all the way up to Z!
Q: Such good advice! "Everything that can go wrong, will go wrong" unfortunately so great reminder to have a backup plan for everything! Are there any specific challenges you've faced that stood out, especially in this economy?
A: We’ve faced our fair share of challenges. By far the biggest being my own lack of experience when I started. I went into this venture with big dreams and a heart full of ambition. And while dreaming big is powerful, reality has a way of humbling you quickly.

I’ve had to pivot, adapt, and revise plans on the fly. But through every unexpected twist, I’ve grown in ways I never could’ve imagined. The learning curve has been steep, but the personal growth has been even greater. As tough as it’s been at times, I wouldn’t change a thing. The lessons along the way have been absolutely invaluable.
Q: What are your future plans for Teddy Lane? Are there any new products or initiatives on the horizon?
A: Absolutely! We’re looking at expanding our range beyond press-ons to offer a full hand and nail care experience, starting with essential prep tools, nourishing treatments and add-ons to help our customers get the most from their sets. Long-term, we’re looking at broader beauty categories too. I want Teddy Lane to be the standard with self-care and effortless beauty. Exciting! We hope so.
Q: What has been the most rewarding part of your journey with Teddy Lane so far?
A: The messages and photos from customers who feel beautiful and confident after using our nails. There’s something so special about creating a product that helps women feel like the best version of themselves. And it is women from all walks of life. I get such a kick out of seeing people enjoy my product.
Q: What does self-care and wellness mean to you?
A: Self-care is making time for the little things that help you feel grounded and confident. It doesn’t need to be extravagant. It could be a 10-minute moment to put on a fresh set of nails, a walk in the sun, or saying no to something that drains you. Wellness to me is about balance, joy, and doing things that light you up. In my case, it usually involves a very good long session with a boxing bag then sprucing myself up after. I like feeling and looking good, from inside to out.

Q: What's the best thing about Spring and what do you enjoy doing to "spring back" from Winter?
A: I have a little confession to make. I actually like winter, so I will be sad to see it go. It's fantastic snuggle weather for when I am feeling lazy, and then perfect conditions for when I am feeling more active. However, spring always feels a bit like a perfect medium. I get the cooler crisp weather, but I also get to enjoy the days getting longer. This is usually when I start feeling brave enough to get back into the sea and spending longer time outside.
