Factory Road was born in 2020, a time when global supply chains were uncertain and many Kiwis began to question why so many everyday items were being imported. One of those products was bodywash.
“A simple question was asked,” says Julene Cropp, co-founder of Cropps NZ Ltd alongside husband Matthew and the woman behind Factory Road and Bees Brilliance. “Why are we importing so much bodywash from Thailand when we have skilled, talented people right here in New Zealand who can make it?”
That question led to action. Factory Road was launched as an affordable, natural, New Zealand-made range of bodywash products that families could find in their local supermarket.
Unlike Bees Brilliance, which focuses on honey-infused skincare solutions, Factory Road is bee-free and all about fruity, feel-good formulations. The raspberry variant is a favourite.

Julene and Matthew live and breathe the Kiwi lifestyle their products are designed for. “We’ve always loved the challenge of adventure,” says Julene. “For us, it usually means exploring New Zealand’s national parks. We’re lucky to have three national parks right on our doorstep in Nelson—all within an hour’s drive. We love being outdoors and moving our bodies, it’s the best way to keep both your mind and body healthy.”
For August, she recommends taking a day walk along the Abel Tasman Coastal Track: “It’s stunning this time of year and doesn’t get too affected by the weather. Just make sure to check the long-range forecast, and always take a rain jacket, even if the skies look clear!”. And the secret to staying energised during outdoor escapades? Julene keeps it simple: “Sleep. It’s non-negotiable.”
