Imagine enjoying a delicious cake treat without the hassle of baking an entire cake or dealing with endless dishes afterwards.
Mare van der Berg, founder of Flour & Dough, understands the joy of family time and the convenience of a quick, delightful treat. "Cake In A Mug was made because as a family we enjoy doing activities together," Mare explains. "Our younger kids just love cake—well, the icing on top! I'm not able to make a cake every other day, so having something quick and easy like Cake In A Mug is perfect for our movie nights or downtime."
Cake In A Mug isn't just about convenience; it's about creating memories. "It felt right to be able to have multiple servings from one pouch so that everyone was able to join in! And everyone was happy, and we get to make memories as a family!" Mare shares enthusiastically.
Another sweet success story to add to the memory books is that Cake In A Mug has been selected as a semi-finalist in the Foodstuffs Emerge competition. However, with this opportunity comes a sense of responsibility and pressure to perform. "The competition is fierce," Mare admits, "as winning means you get ranged in New World and also get to work closely with the marketing team on a one-on-one basis! It's knowledge you cannot buy."
It’s definitely going to be an adventure! And for Mare, adventure and self-care are particularly intertwined with her love for the outdoors and the rejuvenation it brings.
"I love being outdoors! We are fortunate to live in an area with so many great walks and hikes," Mare shares. As her youngest grows older, Mare cherishes the freedom to explore more with her family. "It's liberating to be out and about, even with the buggy restrictions," she jokes.
As August unfolds, Mare finds joy in the changing season and the opportunities it brings. "August is a beautiful month where the colder days ease off, but the mornings remain crisp and fresh.”
And despite facing challenges like post-surgery fatigue, Mare maintains a resilient spirit. "I hope it eases off within two years—fingers crossed!" Mare copes by prioritising rest, early bedtimes, and occasional weekend naps. "It's been a rough ride, but I truly enjoy what I do. Making memories and living in the moment keep me going," Mare shares with gratitude for the journey.
